The refuge can be reached on foot.
You can leave the car in the parking lots of the village of San Martino and go up on foot with a simple walk of an hour.
Alternatively, you can reach the Val di Mello car park but access is limited to only 40 cars per day.
The pass is issued from a machine in front of the tourist office (you need to have a lot of money) and as I said it only releases 40 a day. It is therefore best to arrive early to be able to collect one of the 40 passes available. From this parking lot, you can reach us in 20 minutes on foot.

In winter, the car should normally be left in the village of San Martino and you can reach us with an hour's walk.
If there is little snow, you can reach the Val di Mello car park and you will be with us in 20 minutes, but access to this car park is limited to only 40 cars per day.
The pass is issued by a machine in front of the tourist office (you need to have a lot of money) and as I said it only releases 40 passes a day.
In winter, with the snow-covered road it may be that the machine that issues the pass is not active as the road is not practicable.
It depends on the conditions but in Val di Mello even if there is a lot of snow the path is well beaten.
You can climb well even with boots only but if you have crampons they can be useful for any icy stretches.
And if you have snowshoes, you can leave the path and move around the valley at your leisure.

The refuge can be reached on foot and many people take much longer than expected to walk from the village to the refuge. Furthermore, in many areas of the valley there is no telephone signal and therefore they cannot even contact us to warn us of the delay.
This is why we have chosen not to accept bookings anymore.
In any case, the kitchen is also open in the afternoon (on weekends the kitchen is open until 15.00 - 16.00) and therefore we generally give food to everyone anyway; eventually we may have to wait a moment.
If you are interested, we have also organized a take-away.
For large groups, however, it is possible to contact the refuge for any special arrangements.
To complete the reservation we ask for the payment of a deposit of 40%.
The confirmatory deposit is not refundable, but can be used for a second date with at least 10 days' notice from the expected date of arrival.
Our kitchen mostly prepares typical Valtellina dishes.

The refuge is closed from early November to early December.
From early December until Easter we are only open on weekends.
During the Christmas holidays until Epiphany we are open every day.
We have 2 ground floor rooms where pets are allowed. We ask for a one-off fee, based on the type of dog and the length of stay, for extra cleaning.
