Hiking routes
Casera di Pioda
Time:
4 hours
Climb:
+ 460 mt. to Casera Pioda, +200 mt. to Chiusa
Difficulty:
E; track clearly marked, white/red signposts;
The Alpe Pioda via the Chiusa waterfall is another beautiful one day walk; you can plan a nice pic nic and dip in the creek. The first section of the hike is the same to the Zocca waterfall one. You then have to reach the Rasica plateau on the main path. Here you will find a walking path information board. Following the marked footpath, you will pass a small group of mountain huts and after crossing the pastures, you will enter a mostly flat forest. The path, steep at times, zig zags through the woods for about thirty minutes. Bypass the Val Torrone track on your left and, in a few meters past a large rock, you will find a bridge After crossing the bridge on your right follow a track downhill through the vegetation. Within five minutes you will arrive at a beautiful waterfall and wonderful water holes! Back to main path, take your right continue uphill toward Casera Pioda. Please be careful as the path could be wet at times. It is worth mentioning a great lookout point: it is on a rock sheltered by a fence and signposted on the right, close to the path and just below Casera Pioda. In summer, accommodation is available at Casera Pioda. You can also follow a loop walk called ‘heritage interpretation trail’ where you can see the old hut where cheese was made, massive firs and larches, the ‘barek’ (stone walls used to keep the cattle in place) and some rare plant species. Here you can also find a nice water hole to take a dip and cool off. Follow the same path on the way down.
