Time:
1:30 hours to Alpe Romilla; 2:30 hours to the lookout;
Climb:
+520 mt. to Alpe Romilla; + 900 mt. to the lookout
Difficulty:
EE for experts. The path has little maintenance and you have to pay attention to the track that can be confused with that of the chamois.
This is an highly recommended path along one of the wildest lateral valley of Val di Mello, located on the left hand side of the mountain slopes. It is also one of the leg of “Sentiero Life”. This track allows the most trained hikers to climb the whole of Val Romilla and to reach Valle di Predarossa and Ponti mountain hut via the Romilla pass. You will not be disappointed even if you just want to walk to Baita Romilla or the lookout point at the plateau. This path is designed for experienced hikers as it is quite steep and not always visible due to the nature and length of the terrain. It is a valley that offers unique and unusual sceneries that will surprise you! From the Luna Nascente mountain hut you will climb up along the main path and turn right at the first bridge following a marked track until a large meadow, one of the most peaceful and prettiest parts of the valley floor. From here, follow the sign on your right and climb up Val Romilla. Huge rocky walls overhang on the right hand side of the valley. The climb is quite hard, there is no clear path, but the route is quite obvious. After crossing the creek (there is a chain you can hold on to if you need help) you will reach Baita Romilla, an old alpine pasture located on the mountain ledge with spectacular and unforgettable views. Well-trained hikers can continue the climb. The track enters the woods at the back of the Baita. At 1900 m of altitude, past the woods, you will find a magnificent valley and a lookout point. Please watch the time for your return trip!
